When the computer was invented, it was a single computer sitting in a huge room. It is used to solve very complex mathematical problems like cryptography etc. We quickly realized that we needed our own computers to solve problems that would take years of computing to solve. But then it became clear that if we could connect these computers together, more computing power and collaboration could be achieved. This may be the beginning of computer network science. Now we are indeed collecting, processing and distributing information on a massive scale. Therefore, the convergence of computing and communication is now a priority. Compared to the old model where one computer d all our needs, today we have a large number of separate but interconnected computers to do the job. Data communications and network research have given rise to many new technologies. One of the goals is to be able to exchange data such as text, audio and video from anywhere in the world. We want access to the Internet to download and upload information quickly, accurately, and at any time. When we want to communicate, we just want to share data/information (remote or local). Now let’s look at some basic terms on the subject:.
1.Network
It basically refers to a communication system in which many users are connected internally through communication channels (consisting of nodes and links). A network can also be defined by the geographic area it spans. For example, a local area network (LAN) typically spans a single home, school, or small office building, while a we area network (WAN) spans a city, state, or even the entire world. The Internet is the largest public we area network in the world.
2. Protocols
If the sender sends any data in the communication channel, there is no guarantee that the message (data) will be successfully received by the receiver. Certain rules must be followed to ensure proper communication. These rules (which must be followed) are called protocols. Many different protocols are used in modern data communication systems. A protocol is a standard that defines a method of exchanging data over a computer network such as a local area network, the Internet, an intranet, etc. Each protocol has its own way of formatting data when it is sent, what to do with it after it is received, how to compress the data, or how to check the data for errors.
3. Data
The term data primarily refers to any form of information agreed upon by the parties creating and using the data. Data communication is basically the exchange of data between two devices over some form of transmission medium such as B. wire and cable. Data is used and demanded by everyone, and everyone often relies on and uses data connections. They use data to do most of their work. In order to communicate data, a communication device must be part of a communication system, which is a combination of hardware (physical device) and software (program). The effectiveness of a data communication system depends on four fundamental characteristics: transmission, accuracy, timeliness and jitter.
4. Distributed System:
You must have heard of master-slave networks. When a communication network has one master computer (with only one control unit) and many slave devices (with remote devices and terminals), the network is called a distributed network (rather than a computer network). Thus, users in a distributed network can handle all the networks themselves, as the system handles them without the user’s knowledge. Therefore, we can say that a distributed system is software built on top of a network. What is the introduction of computer network?
A computer network is a group of devices connected with each other through a transmission medium such as wires, cables etc. These devices can be computers, printers, scanners, Fax machines etc. The purpose of having computer network is to send and receive data stored in other devices over the network.
What is computer network definition?
Computer networking refers to interconnected computing devices that can exchange data and share resources with each other. These networked devices use a system of rules, called communications protocols, to transmit information over physical or wireless technologies.
What is a computer networking PDF?
Networking is referred as connecting computers electronically for the purpose of sharing information. Resources such as files, applications, printers and software are common information shared in a networking.
What is computer network and its types?
Two basic network types are local-area networks (LANs) and wide-area networks (WANs). LANs connect computers and peripheral devices in a limited physical area, such as a business office, laboratory, or college campus, by means of links (wires, Ethernet cables, fibre optics, Wi-Fi) that transmit data rapidly.
What are the 4 types of networks?
- LAN(Local Area Network)
- PAN(Personal Area Network)
- MAN(Metropolitan Area Network)
- WAN(Wide Area Network)
What is computer network example?
A network is a collection of computers, servers, mainframes, network devices, peripherals, or other devices connected to allow data sharing. An example of a network is the Internet, which connects millions of people all over the world.
Why is computer network?
The following are the important uses and benefits of a computer network. File sharing: Networking of computers helps the network users to share data files. Hardware sharing: Users can share devices such as printers, scanners, CD-ROM drives, hard drives etc. Without computer networks, device sharing is not possible.
What is types of network?
- PERSONAL AREA NETWORK (PAN)
- LOCAL AREA NETWORK (LAN)
- WIRELESS LOCAL AREA NETWORK (WLAN)
- METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK (MAN)
- WIDE AREA NETWORK (WAN)
- STORAGE AREA NETWORK (SAN)
- VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORK (VPN)
Why is computer network important?
Benefits of computer networking
Not only does it allow staff to share information effortlessly, increasing productivity and efficiency, other benefits include cost-effectiveness, storage efficiency, flexibility, and data security.
What is basic of networking?
Introduction. -A network can be defined as a group of computers and other devices connected in some ways so as to be able to exchange data. -Each of the devices on the network can be thought of as a node; each node has a unique address.
What are the 4 types of networks PDF?

- In our world we have a lot of types of networks such as:
- Personal area network (PAN)
- Local area network (LAN)
- Wide area network (WAN)
- Metropolitan area network (MAN)
- Wireless local area network (WLAN)
What is history of network?
Computer networking as we know it today may be said to have gotten its start with the Arpanet development in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Prior to that time there were computer vendor “networks” designed primarily to connect terminals and remote job entry stations to a mainframe.
What are the 5 components of computer network?
The hardware components are the server, client, peer, transmission medium, and connecting devices. The software components are operating system and protocols.
